Thunderbird connection to server timed out is synonymous with protonmail.
In one of the recent articles I published on this blog, I shared how to delete protonmail account permanently.
Now other users who intend to continue using the email provider are having “Thunderbird connection to server timed out” poping on their screen each time they try to access the services.
So in this post, I will share with you what the error code actually means, what is causing it and how you can fix this error permanently.
As a Protonmail user, you only get this error message when you are trying to send or receive a message.
This error is usually caused by your device taking to long to respond to a request, then you may have this error.
One of the preventive measures to curb against the recurrence of this error is to increase the length of time that the email client will have to wait for a response from the server.
So the big question now is, how can I fix the thunderbird connection to server timed out error?
I will share here some of the quick fixes for Windows and Mac users respectively.
So let’s get into it.
Thunderbird Connection to Server Timed Out Fix
The steps for Windows and Mac users are pretty similar.
But let me start with the Windows users.
For Windows users, simply Navigate to Thunderbird and go to tools, then options – advance – General then config editor.
You can check out the screenshot below for more clarity:
For Mac users, simply go to Thunderbird -> Preferences -> Advanced -> General -> Config editor.
In the case of Mac users, you will have to accept the risk by tapping on the button “I accept the risk!”
The second step is to paste this phrase “mailnews.tcptimeout” without the quotation sign in the search field.
Then modify it by right-clicking on the modify option on the row.
Now modify the value to 2000 or even more.
If after going through all that I have mentioned in this post, and you still have the error message that your Thunderbird connection to server timed out, then you might want to check the internet connection on your computer.
That is exactly how to fix “Thunderbird connection to server timed out” error.
Go ahead and fix it now!
